Build Fail

Technology Term

Definition

Build fail is the term for any individual print or multipart build which is not successfully completed. This can be caused by numerous production errors or external factors, many of which are technology type specific.

Build fails are an inevitable reality with all AM technologies but can be minimised with experience and by following rigorous maintainance and build preparation protocols.

All commercial considerations relating to AM technologies, be those pricing, delivery lead times or material wasteage need to factor in a realistically estimated build failure rate.
