Additive manufacturing is the industrial production term for 3D printing, a computer controlled process that creates three dimensional objects by depositing materials, usually in layers.

From the early 2010's Additive Manufacturing became the preferred term for industrial grade 3D print technologies to differentiate themselves from the base end of the technology spectrum around home / hobbyist technologies.
